The first race of this series ended on Whitehall: 05 September 2004

This final stage saw a lone breakaway on a Westminster circuit by Bradley Wiggins, freshly back from his gold medal in the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens. Temperatures got up to 28 degrees in central London during the afternoon.

The race, and new series, had opened five days earlier at the City of Manchester stadium.
